Where are the international schools in KL?

Updated: Oct 31, 2022

Kuala Lumpur is famous for many things: friendly people, amazing food, and, unfortunately...traffic.

If you've never been to KL, you'll have to take our word for it: the traffic here is atrocious. Poor public transport, a lack of safe walkways and pavements, a humid climate that can make walking unpleasant & cheap car loans means that almost everybody in KL drives everywhere.

Why does this matter?

Because of the traffic, many school-aged children here in Kuala Lumpur face seriously long commutes to and from school every day. What looks like a 20 minute drive to school on Google Maps or Waze can easily turn into an hour or more during peak times: that equals two hours of travelling to and from school per day. And we aren't exaggerating; we know countless families whose children do commutes like this, commutes which force them to be up at 5.30am to catch a 6am bus and mean they aren't home until dinner time. That's tough. And we know children as young as 3 and 4 having to do it.

Try and live close to school!

If you are considering relocating to Kuala Lumpur, we strongly recommend finding the right school first, then finding somewhere to live. If it's possible, living close to your child's school will significantly reduce the daily travel time for your child and improve your family's quality of life. It's just common sense that less time on a bus means more time sleeping and resting, and more time with friends and family.

So, where ARE all the schools?

To save you individually searching through individual school's websites to find their locations, we've put together a Google Map showing the location of many of the international schools in and around Kuala Lumpur. Take a look around! We hope you find it helpful.
